Every morning, we greet eachother “good morning” individually.
Then we sit around the carpet and introduce the fish, face down. One at a time they take it in turns to turn over a fish. When they do, we imitate the sound of the fish «Glup, glup, glup» and we make it swim in the air, I then ask the children, «What colour fish do you have?» to which they reply. We then look around the classroom looking for objects of the same colour or even asking ourselves «Am I wearing blue?», «Are you wearing red?» or «Is he/she wearing black?».
After the game of the fish we sing “Old Grand Duke of York”. Each child chooses an instrument and we sing the song together while playing to it. When we go “up to the top” we stand on our tip toes, and when we go “down to the bottom” we crouch down on the floor.
After singing this song, we always end the class by singing “Good morning” to eachother, followed by a hand shake good-bye.
